EU support for refugees and internally displaced persons

Within the EU-funded project “Support for Refugees and IDPs in Serbia”, 28 refugee and IDP families and local socially vulnerable families from Sremska Mitrovica have signed grant agreements for supply of construction material for reconstruction or completion of housing units.

The agreements were signed after the evaluation committee, consisting of representatives of the Commissariat for Refugees, the City of Sremska Mitrovica, UNHCR and HELP, had selected the recipients.

"The EU contribution in this Project amounts to more than EUR 960.000, out of which more than EUR 200,000 will be spent in Sremska Mitrovica," Timo Stagelmann, regional HELP representative said.

The objective of the Project is to facilitate the access of vulnerable refugees, IDPs and domicile poor to housing solutions and income generation support.

There are more than 4,500 refugees and IDPs living in Sremska Mitrovica. Most of them do not have a durable housing solution.
