DUAL EXCISE DUTIES FOR OIL DERIVATIVES IN SERBIA - Statement by the Delegation of the EU

In relation to media inquiries about reports that the dual excise duty
system introduced for oil derivatives represents a breach of the EU-Serbia
Stabilisation and Association Agreement and the Interim Agreement, the
following statement should be attributed to the Delegation of the European
Union to the Republic of Serbia as a source:

'The Commission is aware of this issue and is looking into it closely. We
attach great importance to the respect of the obligations of the Interim
agreement so that a fair and predictable economic environment can be ensured
for all economic operators and consumers. We will discuss this matter
promptly with the Serbian authorities who are committed to ensure the smooth
implementation of the Interim Agreement."
