INVITATION TO HIGH SCHOOLS FOR PARTICIPATION IN "HELLO EUROPE" QUIZ

Delegation of the European Commission in Serbia and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Serbia is inviting high-school pupils to take part in the 5th cycle of HELLO EUROPE Quiz. The project will be implemented, as in the previous years, by the Department for children and school programme of RTS. The main objective of the Quiz is to show in an educational and entertaining manner, the knowledge of high school pupils about the European Union, its institutions and its Member States.

After the initial testing which will take place in Belgrade on 13 December 2008 at 13h, and on the basis of the results obtained, 32 schools (teams) will participate in the Quiz with two competitors and one reserve. The initial test will be comprised of general knowledge questions. The tests will be evaluated in the premises of the Delegation of the European in Belgrade by a Committee composed of representatives of the Delegation of the European Commission, the Ministry of Education of Serbia, the Serbian European Integration Office and RTS. Schools qualifying for the participation in the Quiz will be notified in due time on the next Quiz filming timeframe.
Competitors that will participate in the televised part of the Quiz will receive the publication EUROPE IN 12 LESSONS that covers specific knowledge on the European Union. Other games in the Quiz are based on the knowledge in culture, history, geography, literature, music, film and arts of Member States of the European Union. This cycle of the Quiz demands from the competitors to be more open and communicative and, beside knowledge, also be ready to sing, draw, etc.

The Quiz will consist of 15 TV shows in which high school pupils in Serbia will compete. Airing of the Quiz will be on Channel 1 of RTS every Saturday starting in March and throughout to June 2009. The Quiz competition methodology is the following:

- 8 TV shows (4 teams in each show of which the 2 best teams qualify for the next round)
- 4 TV shows (4 teams in each show of which the 2 best teams qualify for the next round)
- 2 semi-final TV shows (4 teams in each show of which the 2 best teams qualify for the final
round)
- 1 final TV show (4 best teams compete)

Each Quiz TV show will have 6 games. With new and fun games, competitors will show their knowledge about Europe and as well, about the European Union, its current Member States and candidate and potential candidate countries. Competitors will win valuable prizes and a trip/s to most beautiful towns in Europe.


We invite you to register your school's candidates-3 high-school pupils- for the initial selection test
at the latest by 5 December 2008

Schools can only propose one team. Each time is composed of two competitors and one reserve competitor who will take part in one of the games (singing) and which could replace one of the two main competitors if need be (the reserve competitor does not take part in the initial testing where the 2 competitors will be joined by a professor).

Eligible to participate in this year's cycle of the Quiz are pupils of the 3rd grade.

Good knowledge of English language is required.
