EU Commemorates World Refugee Day
In recognition of World Refugee Day on Sunday June 20, EU Commissioner for Home Affairs, Cecilia Malmström, and EU Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, Kristalina Georgieva, said in a joint statement that offering asylum is an obligation, deriving from Europe's long tradition of humanitarianism and its international commitment to protecting the weak and vulnerable.

EUR 5.3 million for the media and civil society organisations
The European Union granted €5.3 million under the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA) for the Serbian media and non-government organisations development projects “Support for Media in the Area of EU Integration” and “Strengthening Serbian-EU Civil Society Dialogue” respectively.

EU awards 57 grant contracts to Serbian media and civil society organizations worth €5.3 million
The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia invites representatives of the media to the official ceremony awarding grants 32 civil society organisations and 25 media organizations which will take place on Friday, June 18th 2010, in the Sava Center (main/ceremonial entrance, conference room 1b) at 12.00 hours. The grants to the civil society and media have been awarded within the EU-funded projects ‘Strengthening of Serbia-EU Civil Society Dialogue’ and ‘Support for Media Capacity in the Area of EU Integration’ providing 5,3 million EUR in total for the support to these two main pillars of democracy.

Commission welcomes Council's decision to start the ratification process of the Stabilisation and Association agreement with Serbia
The Council decided on 14 June 2010 to unblock the ratification process of the Stabilisation and Association agreement (SAA) between the EU and Serbia. Recalling in the Council Conclusions that cooperation with the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) is an essential element of the SAA, Ministers agreed to submit the agreement to their respective parliaments for ratification, as well as to the European Parliament for its approval.

Today, European Commission began the two day conference on Networking and representations within People 2 People programme. Participants will be able to learn about the way civil organisations are consulted within the decision making process, and meet representatives of European interest organisations` representatives as well.
