Ambassador Vincent Degert Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia will visit Vranje and Bujanovac on 19th July

Ambassador Vincent Degert Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Serbia will visit Vranje and Bujanovac on 19th July. In Vranje he will together with Božidar Djelic, Deputy Prime Minister for EU Integration and Minister of Science and Technological Development, sign a contribution agreement of EUR 13.5 million for the programme entitled "European Partnership with Municipalities – PROGRES". In Bujanovac, Ambassador Degert and Deputy Prime Minister Djelic will meet with the Coordination Body and participate in a TV debate organised by JUGpress.

H.E. Ambassador Vincent Degert, Head of the European Union Delegation in Serbia and Mr. Božidar Djelic, Minister of Science and Technological Development and Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, will on 19th July 2010 at 12.00 sign the agreement for a grant worth EUR 13.5 milliion for the implementaiton of the programme "European Partnership with Municipalities – PROGRES" . PROGRES aims at supporting the development of 25 municipalities in South and South West Serbia.

PROGRES is a joint programme between the European Union, the government of Switzerland and the government of the Republic of Serbia who respectively donated EUR 13,5 million, EUR 2,5 million and EUR 1,5 million for this programme. PROGRES will be implemented by the United Nations Office for Project Support – UNOPS. Strategically, this programme is in line with the commitment and efforts of the government of Serbia to reform its administration, support a well-balanced development and the European integration of the country. Concretely, the programme will assist partner municipalities to upgrade infrastructure, improve the quality of services offered to citizens and the business community, modernise work in line with the principles of good administration and promote their business potential.

In Bujanovac, Ambassador Degert and Deputy Prime Minister Djelic will meet with the Coordination Body to discuss the progress of the work of this body and will, after that, participate in a TV debate organised by JUGpress at 16.00 in the Culture Institute. The debate is entitled "After the conflict – real life" and the central topics will be European integration and economic development of South Serbia as well as the importance of local initiatives.
